Death of Kindness
by Don Singleton

Kindness died on Sunday, April 26, 2009 6:18 AM, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I assume you remember in March we wrote about Karla Sparks and "The Random Acts of Kindness Group". They got off to a good start, doing a lot of interesting things, but then on March 20 Karla announced:

My husband and I are going to be moving to Florida, so this group is going to need a new organizer...

I hope that someone will take over as the new organizer. This could be a great group!

I have considered myself lucky to have met some very nice people in the RAOK group. I just wish I could have done more.

I don't have any time to organize anything for this month;however, if you have an idea for a meeting, I can make you an organizer or assistant organizer. Please let me know.

Unfortunately no one stepped forward to become the new Organizer, and despite multiple warnings from meetup.com, no one stepped forward to take the helm, and finally they announced "The Random Acts of Kindness Group was closed today because nobody stepped up to become the Organizer".

Were none of the 42 volunteers willing to take a leadership role, or was it the fee (about $12 a month) that Meetup charges? I don't know. But it is sad that no one stepped forward to lead the group.

I hope the 42 members will continue to do Random Acts of Kindness, even without an organizer to suggest opportunities, and I hope Karla can find some people in Florida to organize to perform Random Acts of Kindness.

If anyone in the Tulsa area is looking for a volunteer opportunity, and would like to learn a little about refurbishing computers to give to schools, churches, and non-profit organizations, we could certainly use you in HelpingTulsa. Just email me.
